James Christian is an Arizona native with a rich history of providing legal services to a wide variety of businesses and individuals.
James attended Southwestern Law School in downtown Los Angeles, one of the only law schools in the nation at the time with advanced, entertainment-law programs. While in Los Angeles, James worked for Los Angeles World Airports, where he assisted in licensing and implementing LAX’s noise-mitigation and expansion program. After returning to Arizona, James worked for the Honorable Earl H. Carroll of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. James spent the next decade of his legal career working at a large, prominent Phoenix law firm.
Passion helping corporate clients achieve their goals
James serves as outside corporate counsel for a wide variety of businesses. Among other things, he has assisted businesses relative to contracts, corporate-governance, government investigations, licensing, intellectual-property rights, mergers, acquisitions, business sales, regulatory law, administrative proceedings, e-commerce, product liability, vendor relations, commercial disputes, franchise law, subcontractor relations, employment law, independent contractors, and consumer relations.
While many of his clients are large established businesses, James also works closely with entrepreneurs to help them start and run successful businesses. Whether the entrepreneur needs assistance properly forming a business entity, creating internal corporate documents, working through shareholder-rights issues, negotiating and drafting agreements, or simply brainstorming to analyze risk, James has a broad array of legal experience that he is able to contribute.
Extensive litigation experience
James has helped many clients resolve disputes through litigation. He has litigated many different types of cases in state and federal courts across the country. From complex commercial or securities cases, to more individualized cases involving business partners, investors, consumers, vendors, and competitors, James takes pride in making sure his clients understand every step of the process.
Litigating individual and class-action, investment-dispute cases has been a significant part of James’ career. One certified, class-action case brought on behalf of investors in mortgage-backed securities alleged to have been part of a Ponzi scheme settled with the issuer’s principals and securities counsel for just under $90 million. See Facciola v. Greenberg Traurig, LLP, 281 F.R.D. 363 (D. Ariz. 2012).
Other cases have involved obtaining relief in investment-related disputes in various industries and in relation to numerous types of investment products. He has worked as lead counsel, and he also frequently uses his intimate knowledge of local procedure in Arizona's state and federal courts to serve as liaison counsel.
James has represented businesses and individuals in relation to government investigations and administrative proceedings.
Building a strong community
Outside of work, James is active in his community. He’s a founding member of Suns Charities 88, a non-profit that funds children’s programs across the state. James sits on ONE Community’s Multicultural Advisory Board to help promote diversity in the workplace. James also sits on the board of directors for the Phoenix Film Foundation.
James is a past recipient of the Phoenix Business Journal’s 40-Under-40 Award, ONE Community’s Local Heroes Award, and Super Lawyer’s Rising Star Award.
James is also a proud member of Valley Leadership Class 38.
